Hello friends.
From where I sit this morning in New York city, it feels like autumn is on it’s way. So welcome to that, to us, and to the Darling House ‘Consent’ issue. The word and theme of consent is obviously a broad one, but relevant, we feel, because of our constant celebration of women, and moreover of the impending national election. Based on online essays and conversations with friends and artists alike, I deduct that there is a general sense of stress and paranoia about what would come to be in Romney’s new America (which would be a return to a fictionalized 1950). Let me remind you that he wishes to “fight the modern plague of internet pornography”. Please allow me to present to you some relevant writings and images pertinent to the theme:
- Our resident pundit (porndit?) Bastard Keith writes a smashing rant on the heels of the National Conventions, delicious fodder for any political junkie. “Mitt Romney also spoke, but who gives a shit about him? It was the usual bunch of calorie-free American exceptionalist claptrap, punctuated by a bunch of near-offensive pandering. And, of course, the usual policy-free yammering about how HE WILL GIVE US ALL JOBS AND A PONY. Exactly the speech you’d expect from a guy who looks like he’s auditioning for the Hall of Presidents.” Here is the link to his full article:

- It’s no accident that an equally as compelling piece is written by the Bastard’s wife, celebrated burlesque artist Madame Rosebud talking directly to men via her new experiences as a dominatrix in a brave, moving piece called ‘This One Goes Out to the Boys’. “I have only ever been raped by men who say they love me. Because while my vagina implies consent to all men all over the world, my love is explicit consent to those who say they love me to take whatever they want, whenever they deem it appropriate.” Full article here:

- Need further proof that consent themes are in the air? Forbes Magazine interviews our very own Sovereign Syre in an article called ‘The Obscenity Police Are Coming’. Full article here:

- Our artists are also interpreting the theme. See works by photographer George Pitts , painter Joshua Petker, and the rest of the gang as we contribute to this issue. Or you can simply enjoy these fresh galleries of world-class boobs:
